LASIK Suitability: What an Evaluation Includes

A proper refractive work-up checks glass power stability, corneal thickness (pachymetry), corneal shape (topography/tomography), tear-film health and the retina after dilatation.

Red flags that rule out or delay LASIK include unstable power, thin or irregular corneas, keratoconus, uncontrolled dry eye and certain retinal findings. An ethical clinic will say "no" when the measurements say no.

If suitable, your surgeon should explain alternatives (surface procedures, phakic lenses), realistic outcomes and risks — including dry eye and night-time halos — before you decide.
